MARCEL WANDERS Many of Marcel Wanders' designs have been selected for the most important design collections and exhibitions in the world, like the Museum of Modern Art in New York and San Francisco, the V&A Museum in London, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, Museum Boijmans van Beuningen in Rotterdam, the Central Museum in Utrecht, Museum of Decorative Arts Copenhagen and various Droog Design exhibitions. In 2007 Marcel presented a unique collection at the Salone Del Mobile in Milan, the Personal Editions, pieces that he had long imagined and held a very special position in his heart. In late 2009 and early 2010, Marcel Wanders’ first solo-exhibition titled Daydreams was featured in the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Among the many awards received, Marcel Wanders has been the winner of the Elle Decoration International Design Awards Designer of the Year in 2006; he has also received the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s modern design collaborative award, Collab, the Design Excellence Award for his significant contribution to the field of Design in 2009. Many of his design projects have also been awarded or nominated. In 2010, The Kameha Grand Bonn hotel was the winner of the MIPIM Awards 2010 in the category Hotels. The MIPIM Awards recognize excellence and innovation in the real estate arena. His Sparkling Chair designed for Magis is now nominated for 9th edition of the Elle Decoration International Design Awards. Coverage on Marcel has been published in all leading design magazines and newspapers such as Domus, Interni, Blueprint, Design Report, Frame, I.D. magazine, Abitare, Wallpaper, Nylon, Elle decoration, Icon, Esquire, the International Herald Tribune, Washington Post, the Financial Times, the New York Times and Business Week. In April 2003, the Washington Post proclaimed: ‘Marcel Wanders, the design world’s favorite star’. The Observer mentioned that: “Marcel Wanders' studio is one of the most inspiring powerhouses of multi disciplinary design active today” on September 2005. The Financial Times has declared for its part that “Marcel Wanders and the Moooi company he co-owns have made contemporary Dutch design synonymous with exuberant creativity”.
